Resurging tuberculosis, emerging threats

The Global tuberculosis control 2008 reports that the pace of progress to control the tuberculosis (TB) epidemic slowed slightly in 2006. Another report, "Anti-tuberculosis drug resistance in the world", finds that there are nearly half a million new cases of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) every year, the highest rate ever. Extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB), a virtually untreatable form, has been recorded in 45 countries.
