Cyclone Nargis, Myanmar: delta disease surveillance

WHO

In discussions with national and local health authorities, the major health threats likely to be exacerbated by this crisis were identified as those related to communicable diseases. The priority diseases which the EWARN system tried to detect and monitor were those emanating from contaminated water or food such as diarrhoeal diseases (e.g cholera), vector-borne diseases such as malaria or dengue, diseases associated with displacement and overcrowding such as respiratory infections, and vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles.
