It is the Iraqi part of Kurdistan, inhabited by about 1 million Kurds, that has been entrusted to the care of WHO malariologist, Dr Luigi Mara who, as the sun rises each morning and the sheeps are driven to new pastures, begins his day's work of bringing the Kurds health and a better way of life.
