Somalia - Struggling to reach the sick

Medical facilities at Somali hospitals require urgent maintenance.
Dr Omar Saleh/WHO

Conflict and reduced international funding has had a serious impact on the Somalia health system. In the health sector, limited funding has meant that emergency obstetric care, primary healthcare, early warning, vaccination, outbreak response and emergency surgical programs have been curtailed. Medical equipment is not properly serviced and this puts strains on emergency surgical interventions and other life-saving health services.
