When Jane Tibihka of the United Republic of Tanzania was cured of tuberculosis (TB) in 2004, she recognized that former TB patients could be a valuable resource. “They have the understanding and motivation to help others sick with the disease,” she says. She formed an organization of former TB patients, the Upendo Disadvantaged Group.
