Afghanistan uses a new vaccine against polio
A new vaccine against polio is used for the first time in polio immunization campaigns in Afghanistan. Deemed a critical tool to eradicate polio, the new vaccine provides the optimal concurrent protection needed by young children against both surviving serotypes (types 1 and 3) of the paralysing virus. An estimated 2.8 million children under five were slated to receive the vaccination.
