Four million on antiretroviral therapy

More than four million HIV-positive people in low- and middle-income countries receive antiretroviral therapy at the end of 2008 – a tenfold increase from 2003. WHO revises its guidelines on antiretroviral therapy for adults and adolescents, which provide a reference for best clinical practice and will help countries set their own national standards for HIV treatment and care.
