Remote remedies: healthcare in Badakshan Afghanistan

Midwife training on how to stop post-partum bleeding by hand
WHO/Chris Black

In addition to the mobile clinics, remote villages like Khaspak benefit from women who receive health training in Badakshan's capital, Faizabad, and return to provide healthcare - including midwifery - in their communities. At the Faizabad Midwifery Training School started by WHO in 2007, trainer Farzana Darkhani uses an obstetric mannequin to show students how to stop post-partum bleeding by hand.
