Initiatives like the midwifery school have trained over 100 women who are now working throughout Badakshan province. The new "Maternity Waiting Home" at the Faizabad Provincial Hospital is for women from remote areas who come to give birth safely. "Now when we have difficult cases, the women and babies survive," says midwife Nazamia, (pictured left) says.
