Clinical trials showed the vaccine to be safe and highly effective

Clinical trials, beginning in 2005, have been carried out in the Gambia, Ghana, India, Mali, and Senegal. They have shown the vaccine to be safe and highly effective for a target population of 1-29 year-olds.
