Another Haitian working for the health of his community is Dr Ernso Casimir, the director and founder of Pernier Hospital. As a medical student he decided to open a clinic to serve the people on the northern outskirts of Port-au-Prince. He asked his mother for a quarter of his family’s land to build the clinic. After he got the support of his family, he began consultations with the community. “You have to invite them. Ask them what they want. It should be a collective decision,” he said.
