Haitian health care: a follow-up

Nurse and two patients in the cholera treatment unit
WHO/N. Alexander

When cholera hit Haiti, WHO provided funds for the cholera treatment unit in Pernier Hospital. The unit treated 500 cases over a two-month period, with 5 deaths. By February 2011 there were fewer daily cases, but the hospital plans to keep the unit functioning as cholera will likely become endemic and return periodically.
