Celebrating the first World Hepatitis Day
About 1 million deaths per year are attributed to viral hepatitis infections. The first World Hepatitis Day in 2011 set out to increase awareness and understanding of viral hepatitis and the diseases that it causes. It provided an opportunity to focus on the importance of having a global response to the disease and to strengthening prevention – for example by increasing hepatitis B vaccine coverage.
