Sleeping newborn baby cradled by mother
WHO

Nearly three million children died in 2011 within a month of their birth.

Newborn life is fragile. Health risks to newborns are minimized by:

  • quality care during pregnancy;
  • safe delivery by a skilled birth attendant;
  • strong neonatal care: immediate attention to breathing and warmth, hygienic cord and skin care, and exclusive breastfeeding.
