Thousands of calls are made to poison control centres around the world each day. Although the majority of cases are resolved over the phone, 125 children die from poisoning daily. Effective ways to prevent poisoning include safe storage of toxic agents, child-resistant packaging of medicines and other poisons, distributing medication in non-lethal quantities, and wider access to poison control centres.
