Human rights violations: isolation and abuse

People with mental disorders are often ostracized from society. Isolation and rejection leaves people feeling hopeless and alone. Many people descend into poverty as they fail to receive the treatment and care they require.

In some communities, people with mental disorders are banished to the edge of town where they are left semi-naked or in rags. They are beaten, tied up, shackled or left hungry.
