New initiative for tobacco control
In August, Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, announced his plans to donate US$ 125 million towards an initiative to end the global tobacco epidemic. WHO is a partner of the initiative, which presents an opportunity to scale up tobacco control efforts in developing countries where more than two-thirds of the world's smokers live.
