Avian influenza

In 2006, avian influenza spread to new countries: Azerbaijan, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Nigeria and Turkey reported their first cases of the H5N1 virus. In March, WHO called an international meeting to respond to the avian influenza threat. WHO Member States decided in May to immediately implement parts of the International Health Regulations - ahead of the June 2007 deadline.
