Female genital mutilation

A new WHO study shows that women who have had female genital mutilation (FGM) are significantly more likely to experience difficulties during childbirth. Their babies are also more likely to die. In Africa, 10 to 20 more babies die per 1000 deliveries than in other continents as a result of FGM.
