Dr Awa Aidara-Kane
Lead of the WHO Advisory Group on Integrated Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance (WHO-AGISAR), Department of Food Safety and Zoonoses, World Health Organization.
Dr Awa Aidara-Kane is the lead of the WHO Advisory Group on Integrated Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance (WHO-AGISAR). She obtained her MD in Food Technology at ENITIAA in Nantes, France and her PhD and HDR (Accreditation to Supervise Research) degrees in Microbiology from University of Technology of Compiegne, France. She was associate Professor of Bacteriology and Virology at the Faculty of Medicine of University Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar from 1984 to 1990. She joined the Pasteur Institute of Dakar as Assistant Researcher in 1985 and became the Head of the Laboratory of Experimental Bacteriology and Scientific Director of the Laboratory of Food Hygiene and Environment in 1997. Her area of research was phenotypic and genotypic characterization of enteric and foodborne pathogens. She joined the World Health Organization in 2002 where she is coordinating the WHO's activities on containment of foodborne antimicrobial resistance.
