Fumiko Kasuga

Dr Kasuga graduated from The University of Tokyo in 1982 and received a Ph.D. degree in agricultural science from The University of Tokyo in 1988. Since 2000, she has been a drafting group member for FAO/WHO Microbiological Risk Assessment (JEMRA) and participated in related expert meetings as a temporary adviser for WHO. As an Expert Committee member for the Food Safety Commission, Japan since 2003, she has actively been involved in developing the guidelines for conducting MRA in Japan. She was a short-term adviser for Vibrio risk assessment in the JICA-Malaysia Food Safety Strengthening Program. She also works on the burden of illness studies of diarrhoeal diseases since 2004. With these activities she has been invited to many international conferences, and received Prize Award from the Japanese Society for Risk Analysis in 2007.

She has been a part-time lecturer at The University of Tokyo, Meiji University, and at Japan Women’s University, an invited lecturer at University of Bologna. Member of the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Foods (ICMSF) since 2003, and Member of the Science Council of Japan since 2005.
