The Secretary of Health supports GARD development in Mexico

Mexico City, Mexico, 24 January 2008

An international workshop to discuss GARD took place in Mexico City, Mexico, on 24 January 2008, at the presence of José Ángel Córdova Villalobos, Secretary of Health, Mexico and of Manuel Mondragón y Kalb, Secretary of Health, Mexico City.

The event was organized by Rogelio Pérez Padilla, President, Latin American Thoracic Association (ALAT), and initiator of GARD discussions in Mexico. Jean Bousquet, GARD Chaiperson, was also present to support the event.

In his speech, Dr Córdova Villalobos mentioned that chronic respiratory diseases constitute a public health problem. "The cost of this disease - he said- is very high and it will increase if no immediate action is taken". The Secretary of Health supported GARD as an interesting strategy to involve different partners in a joint action against chronic respiratory diseases in Mexico.

ALAT is a participant of the Global Alliance against Chronic Respiratory Diseases (GARD).
