Sifting the evidence: Gender and tobacco control
OVERVIEW
Both the history of the tobacco epidemic and the shape of its current progression across low- and middle-income countries have a gender perspective. While male smoker rates have peaked and are in slow decline, female rates are still rising. This document makes suggestions for creating a gendered global response to tobacco use, with particular reference to the opportunities presented by the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and other relevant treaties and agreements.
