OVERVIEW

Violence against women is one of the major public health and human rights problems in the world today. WHO conducted this landmark study in ten countries to document the magnitude and nature of the problem with a view to identifying solutions. This document describes the study, the partners who came together to make it happen, and some of its impact at country level. The report culminates in 15 recommendations to strengthen national commitment and action on violence against women by promoting primary prevention, harnessing education systems, strengthening the health sector's response, supporting women living with violence, sensitizing criminal justice systems, undertaking research and enhancing collaboration.
