Place: Vienna, Austria
Date: 18-23 July 2010

From 18-23 July 2010, the XVIII International AIDS Conference took place in Vienna, Austria. The Department of Gender, Women and Health (GWH) participated and contributed to advancing the agenda on women, girls, gender equality and HIV in several ways.

In collaboration with the German bilateral agency GTZ and UNAIDS, GWH presented the poster Strengthening gender-sensitive national HIV monitoring and evaluation systems to improve HIV programming for women and girls.

At the German Pavilion, GWH presented the WHO Gender, women and health learning programme which focuses on tools and guidelines on gender mainstreaming in health, integrating gender into HIV/AIDS programmes and developing harm reduction services for female injecting drug users.

As part of an interagency collaboration with other UNAIDS cosponsors, UNIFEM, PEPFAR, USAID and GTZ, GWH participated in a panel on a gender equality and HIV indicator that will be proposed to the UNAIDS Monitoring and Evaluation Reference Group (MERG) to be included in the United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) for monitoring the global HIV/AIDS response.
