Programmatic Guidelines

Integrating gender into HIV/AIDS programmes in the health sector

These guidelines aim to strengthen capacity of the health sector to address the needs of women affected by or living with HIV/AIDS. They provide practical "how to" guidance on address gender issues in four HIV service delivery areas: testing and counseling; prevention of mother-to-child transmission; treatment and care, and home-based care and support for people living with HIV. In each section, tools are introduced to build individual and team capacity on risk assessment, prevention, disclosure and treatment adherence counseling, protocols for addressing violence against women, and a monitoring checklist to assess how well a programme or service integrates gender.
