Welcome to the Genomic Resource Centre (GRC)
I am delighted to welcome you to our Genomic Resource Centre (GRC), a website designed to provide information not only to health professionals and policy makers, but also to patients and their families, the general public and the media. The GRC serves as a platform to highlight the latest scientific research as well as practical health care applications of human genomics and its ethical, social and legal implications. Our aim is to encourage global networks to enhance the transfer of genomic information, especially to developing countries.
The Genomic Resource Centre anticipates the expanding role of genomics in the future of medicine and health. Moreover, it serves as a meeting point for diverse interested parties in the varied areas of medical genetics, such as genetic counselling, pre-symptomatic diagnosis, population genetics, ethics and genomics. In particular, the Genomic Resource Centre provides regulatory, ethical and policy recommendations as well as examples of best practices from around the world. Working in direct cooperation with WHO regional and country offices, distinguished partners and civil society, the documents and tools in the GRC offer models, recommendations, and resources for effective delivery of genetic health services throughout the world according of specific country needs. The World Health Organization’s global networks and long-standing health experience make it uniquely equipped to respond to genomics issues. WHO actively supports capacity building, especially in developing countries, fosters partnerships around the world, and works to narrow the gap in healthcare inequities. The Human Genetics Programme, in concert with other WHO departments via the GRC, is one of the focal points in WHO to consider a range of issues concerning research and the application of genetic knowledge.
Our team continues to work diligently to ensure the quality of each page of the GRC and hopes that the Genomic Resource Centre will become an indispensable tool for providing up-to-date and accurate information that offers global users quick and easy access via the Internet. We appreciate your feedback and invite you to contact us at genomics@who.int
Again, I warmly welcome you to the GRC website and wish you a rewarding visit.
