Age limits for purchasing alcohol (on-premise service and off-premise purchase)

Situation and trends

Age limits, or restricting the ability to purchase and being served alcohol, is one of the most effective restrictions on the availability of alcohol. The legal age limit imposed by countries varies from 15 (Angola) to 25 (Nepal) years; the majority of countries require drinkers to be 18 years or older. Globally, 17 countries have no age limit for on-premise consumption of alcohol, while 22 have no age limit for off-premise consumption.
