Situation and trends
The proportion of households in sub-Saharan Africa owning at least one ITN increased dramatically from 3% in 2000 to 53% in 2011. However, this proportion remained at 53% in 2012.
The main reason for this recent deceleration is the decrease in the number of ITNs delivered to countries in the last two years. If this trend is maintained over the next years, the proportion of households with enough ITNs for all households members is likely to remain below the 100% required to achieve universal coverage.
