Between 2007 and 2010 there was a 15% increase in the number of registered vehicles in the world.
Motorization impacts upon road traffic injuries, but also upon congestion, air pollution, and mobility. In many middle-income countries, the rapid pace of motorization has taken place in the absence of measures to ensure that all road users, notably pedestrians and cyclists, remain safe.
