Most commonly used treatment setting
for alcohol and drug use disorders
Treatment of alcohol and drug use disorders involves different treatment settings with mental health services and specialized alcohol and drug services as main providers of treatment for people with alcohol and drug use disorders. In 2008, mental health services were the main treatment providers for the treatment of alcohol use disorders, especially in less-resourced countries. For the treatment of drug use disorders, specialized care for substance use disorders seems to play a significant role in service provision. Data shows that for the treatment of alcohol and drug use disorders the role of primary health care remains still limited.
