How many TB cases and deaths are there?

Situation in 2010

Estimated: 8.8 million (8.5–9.2 million) new and relapse TB cases.

Estimated: 1.4 million (1.2–1.5 million) people died from TB including 0.35 million (0.32–0.39 million) people with HIV.

Notified: 5.7 million new and relapse TB cases.


Trends


Incidence rate is falling slowly after peaking in 2005.

TB death rate has fallen by 40% since 1990.

The world and all of WHO’s six regions are on track to achieve the Millennium Development Goal target that TB incidence rates should be falling by 2015
