Information, capacity building and research
WHO, in partnership with other international agencies including the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environment Programme, with the support of many government agencies, has developed activities in three main areas:
- evidence for policy advice and support for decision-making
- development of research and information networks
- technical support for capacity building in countries
Initiatives include national and regional assessments, burden of disease studies, identification of adaptation strategies for the health sector, dissemination of current scientific findings, guidelines and training materials, research and reviews on early warning systems, promoting interdisciplinary research, and other joint activities being implemented through a new network of WHO Collaborating Centres.
