Climate Risk Management: Consultation

Technical Meeting, Geneva Switzerland September 3, 2009

A technical meeting on Climate Risk Management of Infectious Diseases was jointly hosted by the World Health Organization, the World Meteorological Organization, the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI), and the Health and Climate Foundation on September 3, 2009 in Geneva Switzerland.

Held in parallel with the World Climate Conference this meeting brought together 40 public health and meteorological practitioners, researchers and information providers, from around the world to discuss a cooperative agenda between health and climate communities of practice for climate risk management of infectious diseases. Discussions outlined good practices and different experiences shown to strengthen collaboration between health and meteorological actors.

The meeting focused on gleaning experience from partners who have been working in climate risk management of malaria in Africa, a domain that has pioneered approaches to using meteorological data, and serves as a pathfinder to extend approaches to the management of other climate-sensitive diseases.
