This National Policy Information and Health Informatics policy was developed in order to reinforce the democratization of information and communication, in all aspects; and to ensure the compatibility, interface and modernization of information systems of the Unified Health System (SUS). It also aims for the improvement of integration and coordination with the systems and databases relevant to health.
Communication, education and information are identified as essential components to achieve equity, quality and humanization of health services and strengthen social control within the SUS. There is also a recognized need for identification, enhancement and networking of information and communication between governments and society. In order to achieve the efficiency gains and quality allowed by technology, electronic records need to be automatically generated, resulting in greater reliability for information management, generation of knowledge and social control.
