In 2006, the Croatian government endorsed a comprehensive National Health Development Strategy for the period 2012-2020. This strategy's first priority is the development of information technology and eHealth integration via standardization of health information and the degree of computerization in the health system. This encompasses strategic goals, including: creating electronic health records; improving the use of health statistical information to support decision making; establishing a system for reporting and alerting; and modernizing existing information systems in health care. The strategy also addresses elements of certification, change management and training, financing and legislation.
