Travelogue: visit to Ethiopia, August 2006
From 27 August to 1 September, supermodel Liya Kebede, WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health visited Ethiopia to speak at the opening ceremony of the African Regional Committee meeting. Ms Kebede also visited local hospitals and health facilities throughout the country to advocate on behalf of WHO's health and nutrition programmes. The country recently experienced severe flooding and Ms Kebede took the opportunity to visit the camps of the displaced and to meet with flood victims. On Friday, 1 September, Ms Kebede joined Joy Phumaphi, WHO Assistant Director-General for Family and Community Health for a press conference at the Addis Ababa Hospital to launch the WHO obstetric fistula manual.
