Six pilot sites in health care settings are being selected to work closely with the WHO Challenge Team and WHO Representatives at country level in the testing and evaluation of the WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care (Advanced Draft) and the promotion and development of other actions to promote clean care.
The aim of this testing phase is to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of the Challenge implementation strategy in a wide range of different healthcare settings and learn from the successes and shortcomings. The pilot will be formally evaluated using validated WHO evaluation tools. This evaluation will contribute to the final version of the Guidelines to be published in 2007. To achieve this goal the selected sites will be supported from the WHO World Alliance for Patient Safety to run all steps of the proposed implementation strategy and adapt it to local needs. The pilot sites will be supported by the Alliance in terms of technical expertise and other resources.
Pilot sites will have access to the full range of WHO implementation tools including information and awareness, technical, advocacy, training and evaluation tools.
