Contingency Fund for Emergencies releases funds to support response to el Niño in Papua New Guinea

7 June 2016 -- The Contingency Fund for Emergencies (CFE) released US$ 483 000 at the end of May to support WHO’s response to the health consequences of food and water shortages in Papua New Guinea caused by the El-Niño climate event.

22 February 2016,Geneva—Above-average rainfall caused by El Niño is expected in parts of South America until May 2016, and could cause floods and increases in diseases spread by mosquitoes, including malaria, dengue, chikungunya and the Zika virus.
