Japan increases support for post-quake Haitian healthcare

The Government of Japan is stepping up its efforts to improve health care for millions of Haitians affected by January's devastating earthquake. Japan has given an additional US$3.5 million to support the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization's (PAHO/WHO) emergency response and recovery efforts, taking the overall amount of Japanese financial support to WHO to US$4.5 million.

12 September 2008 | GENEVA/PORT AU PRINCE -- WHO and its partners urgently need US$ 4.2 million to provide health care for many of the 800 000 people - including children and pregnant women - affected by successive tropical storms in Haiti.
