4 October 2010 -- Health facilities in Haiti have been erected. Outbreaks prevented. Health services maintained and staff trained. These are among highlights described in a new update from the Pan-American Health Organization on the humanitarian health situation in Haiti nine months since the island's devastating earthquake.
The Haiti National System for Risk Management and Disasters reports that there have been 43 fatalities as result of Noel. 15 people are missing, 3 252 families affected and 14 198 people in shelters. More than 5 000 houses have been damaged or destroyed.
29 September - 5 october 2007--Heavy rains in Les Cayes, Haiti have caused widespread flooding. Private homes as well as public buildings have been affected, including the Immaculate Hospital of Les Cayes and the city’s main prison. An Emergency Operations Center has been activated in Les Cayes and a coordination meeting has taken place. In coordination with a unit from Uruguay, PAHO/WHO helped evacuate 184 people and is assisting in logistical support for the purchase of food for shelters. PAHO/WHO and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) have been in contact with local officials in areas considered to be at high risk. Many of these areas have reported that the situation is normal and that there is no flooding. PAHO/WHO continues to monitor the situation.
