16 November 2017 Cairo, Egypt – WHO has airlifted trauma kits and medical supplies to the Islamic Republic of Iran to support the treatment of thousands people injured as a result of the recent earthquake in the Islamic Republic of Iran-Iraq border region.
Earthquake in Southern Iran, Sistan and Baluchistan province
17 April 2013 -- A 7.8 Richter scale earthquake occurred in Sistan and Baluchestan Province in South-eastern in Iran on 16 April 2013 at 15:14 PM. The affected area is sparsely populated rural area between the provincial cities of Saravan and Khash. The Ministry of Health and Medical Education reported 10 injuries and no death. The governor of Sistan and Baluchistan declared the total number of one death and 12 injuries. WHO office in the Islamic Republic of Iran is in close contact with the Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education and is monitoring the situation. WHO is also coordinating with UN partners in case of any eventual assistance required
14 August 2012 -- Two earthquakes and more than 60 aftershocks struck the Islamic Republic of Iran on 11 August 2012, leaving 255 dead, 2006 injured and more than 16 000 homeless. WHO’s office in the Islamic Republic of Iran is in close contact with UN partners and the head of the Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education to monitor the situation.
