Russian Federation - North Caucasus - Chechnya
The North Caucasus region – especially Chechnya, Ingushetia and North Ossetia – is in the grip of an ongoing humanitarian crisis marked by conflict and poverty.
The health system is unable to sufficiently meet the demands of the 1.5 million people affected by the crisis, of whom 50,000 are internally displaced, 27,000 living in temporary accommodation centres in Chechnya and about 47,000 people living in temporary settlements in Ingushetia.
The main health priorities in the North Caucasus are maternal and child health, communicable and vaccine-preventable disease control, tuberculosis control, sexually transmissible infections and HIV/AIDS control, rehabilitation of health structures, mental health and psychosocial rehabilitation and antipersonnel mine victim support.
