CAP and Other Appeals for 2008

WHO appeals for USD 164.5 million to support countries in crisis in 2008

Within the framework of the Consolidated Appeals Process 2008, WHO appeals for USD 164.5 million to respond to the health aspects of humanitarian emergencies in 2008.

In addition, the health sector is requesting almost US$ 132 million for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, out of which WHO’s part will be decided in the framework of the Health Cluster during 2008.

WHO's focus is on the Central African Republic, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Liberia, Nepal, the occupied Palestinian territory, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Timor-Leste, Uganda, West Africa and Zimbabwe.

Priorities include:

  • Improving access to essential health care for vulnerable people
  • Strengthening coordination among health partners
  • Establishing and strengthening disease surveillance, early warning and response systems
  • Reinforcing emergency and preparedness response capacities
  • Supporting systems to reduce maternal, infant and under-five mortality and morbidity
  • Strengthening health and socio-psychological support to victims of violence
