Addressing the health situation in the occupied Palestinian territory

Following World Health Assembly Resolution 59.3 and in an effort to address the health needs of the population of the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), WHO is organizing a meeting in Geneva on 12 June 2006.

The main goal of the meeting is to review the current health situation and identify appropriate courses of action to avert a humanitarian health crisis and ensure the provision of health services in the oPt.

Technical staff from the Ministry of Health, UNRWA, OCHA, concerned UN agencies as well as donors and stakeholders representatives will participate.

Expected outcomes:

  • An information update on the situation of the Palestinian health system and public health programmes;
  • Identification of possible impacts of inadequate funding on the public health system;
  • Identification of mechanisms to channel funds, fill gaps, and address humanitarian needs.
