Humanitarian Health Action

The Inter-agency Field Manual on Reproductive Health in Humanitarian Settings

The Inter-Agency Field Manual was revised this year to extend principles and technical content beyond refugee situations to use in diverse crises, including conflict and natural disasters and to be in line with other inter-agency documents.

All people, including those living in humanitarian settings, have the right to Reproductive Health (RH). To exercise this right, affected populations must have an enabling environment and access to comprehensive RH information and services so they can make free and informed choices.

The newly revised field manual aims to:

  • serve as a tool to facilitate discussion and decision-making in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of RH interventions;
  • guide field staff in introducing and/or strengthening RH interventions in refugee situations, based on refugee needs and demands and with full respect for their beliefs and values;
  • advocate for a multi-sectoral approach to meeting the RH needs of refugees and to foster coordination among all partners.

The field manual is now out for field review.
