Kenya
A major strategic objective of Kenya's Ministry of Health is “ensuring provision of a basic health package to all Kenyans and increasing coverage of quality health care for the poor.” Indeed, currently more than half of the population is living below the poverty line. When people fall ill, many of them can simply not afford to pay for medical care at the point and time of treatment.
Among a number of efforts to improve social health protection a National Social Health Insurance Scheme that aims to ensure access to quality healthcare to all Kenyans was proposed.
