Health financing policy

Selected country experiences

Viet Nam

In 1992, Viet Nam implemented a decree on social health insurance, focusing mostly on compulsory insurance for workers and employees. More recently, the focus has been on how to extend this protection to the self-employed and rural populations, including the poor. The WHO has been working with the Ministry of Health and Viet Nam Social Security on assessing the feasibility of these recent policy initiatives. The paper below gives further details on social health insurance development in Viet Nam.
