Health System Metrics

There is considerable demand for health system metrics from countries, international organizations, donors and global health partnerships to guide resource allocation, enhance accountability, and monitor progress. The Health Metrics Network-led work on health system metrics work includes developing a measurement strategy including data collection, synthesis of data from different sources and estimation, reaching agreement on a parsimonious set of core indicators that resonate with the target audiences, and promotion of integration of health systems monitoring and their performance into country health information systems.

During 2006 monitoring issues are addressed related to specific components of health systems, such as human resources, information, financing, governance, service provision and coverage indexes. Health Metrics Network brought together experts in a global meeting on health systems performance monitoring in Glion, 28-29 September 2006.
