The Republic of Uganda has continued to pursue efforts that would improve the health of all citizens. This has been the fundamental premise on which successively the Ministry of Health has developed Health Sector Strategic Plans, I and II. These Plans have aimed to deliver interventions that are cost-effective and sustainable to improved health care for all citizens.
In order to cultivate a strong approach towards strengthening of the HIS in Uganda, the Ministry of Health embarked on a multi-staged consultative process of assessing the country HIS situation. HIS assessment was conducted at both national and sub-national levels, and detailed taskforce appraisals in sampled districts. Results of the assessment are presented here and will be used for development of a comprehensive HIS plan for the country.
